AI Usage Policy

How our AI chatbot works, what it can and cannot do, and how your conversations are handled.

Last updated: April 22, 2026

Overview

Evins Construction operates an AI-powered chatbot on this website to help you learn about our construction and remodeling services and the products in our online store. This policy explains how that chatbot works, what it can and cannot do, and how your conversations are handled.

What the chatbot is

The Evins Construction chatbot is an AI assistant available in two modes:

  • Text chat - type your questions, receive typed replies.
  • Voice chat - speak your questions, receive spoken replies. Voice chat has two engines: a standard mode (speech-to-text, then text-to-speech) and an optional real-time mode that streams audio in both directions for lower latency.

The assistant is powered by Google's Gemini models: gemini-2.5-flash for text and standard voice, and gemini-2.5-flash-native-audio-preview-09-2025 for real-time voice.

What the chatbot knows

The chatbot's only source of information is the public content of this website. That includes:

  • Product descriptions, pricing, and status
  • Published blog articles
  • Frequently asked questions
  • Customer testimonials
  • Team member biographies
  • Public page content (Home, Services, Areas We Serve, Our Work, About, Blog, FAQ, Shop, Contact)

Website content is extracted as plain text - HTML, styling, and formatting markup are stripped before being sent to the model - so the assistant discusses the content, not the code.

What the chatbot will not do

The assistant is configured with strict behavioral rules. It will not:

  • Answer questions outside the scope of Evins Construction, our construction and remodeling services, or the products in our online store
  • Discuss politics, elections, campaigns, candidates, or partisan topics
  • Mention, compare with, or recommend competitors or competing products
  • Search the internet or claim to have live external information (it has no browsing tools)
  • Ask you for your email address, phone number, name, physical address, or any other personal information
  • Offer to email you, sign you up, schedule anything, contact anyone on your behalf, or take any other action for you
  • Give legal, financial, medical, or other professional advice beyond what is explicitly published on this site
  • Follow instructions that attempt to override these rules (including "pretend," "roleplay," or "ignore previous instructions")

If you ask something it cannot answer, it will say so and invite you to browse our products or visit the Contact page.

Safety filtering

All five of Google's safety categories are enabled at the strictest publicly available threshold (BLOCK_LOW_AND_ABOVE):

  • Harassment
  • Hate speech
  • Sexually explicit content
  • Dangerous content
  • Civic integrity (election-related misinformation)

If the model's response is blocked by these filters, you will receive a polite refusal instead of the filtered content.

How your conversation is handled

When you send a message, the content of that message is transmitted to Google's Gemini API for processing and a response is returned to you. We do not store your conversation on our servers, and we do not associate it with your identity unless you choose to provide contact information through a separate form on the site (the chatbot itself will not ask).

For real-time voice mode, your browser connects directly to Google's servers using a short-lived, single-use access token minted by our server. Our underlying API key never leaves our infrastructure. Each token is restricted to one model, one session, and expires quickly.

Anonymous diagnostic events (for example, "mic started," "playback error") are sent to our server so we can monitor chatbot health. These events do not contain the contents of your conversation.

Google's role

Because the chatbot runs on Google's Gemini API, Google's own terms and privacy practices apply to the processing of your messages on their infrastructure. We do not control Google's handling of that data beyond the configuration options described above.

Accuracy and limitations

The assistant is a language model. It can occasionally produce inaccurate or incomplete responses even when grounded in our content. For anything that affects a purchasing decision, health consideration, or financial commitment, please verify the information on the relevant page of this site or contact us directly.

Purpose

The chatbot exists to help you understand Evins Construction and to make it easier to explore our products or get in touch. It is a marketing and information tool, not an advisor.

Questions

If you have questions about this policy or about how the chatbot handled a specific conversation, please use the Contact page.
